On the first day of competition, the homecrowd could celebrate having their national anthem played for Vera Zemanova, -57 kg. The young Czech had already been in another final this year in La Coruna, but on home ground, she managed to take home her first gold medal at a Junior European Cup.
In the final, she defeated another IPPONGEAR athlete; Iva Oberan from Croatia. Oberan also have had a succesful season and she could pick up her 4th European Cup medal of the year, this weekend.
In the -44 kg category, a bronze medal went to Austrian Lisa Dengg, her second ever Junior European Cup medal.
On the second day of action, another IPPONGEAR athlete ended the day on top of the podium. Denmark’s Lærke Marie Olsen once again showed her persistency in the category -63 kg by winning the gold medal and raising her flag to the sound of the Danish national anthem.
Also in this category, a bronze medal went to Renata Zachova of Czech Republic, who could follow up her victory in Gdynia, two weeks ago, with another medal.
Another medal went to Mathias Madsen, who won a bronze medal in the -100 kg category. Another proof that he is in great form already having won four European Cup medals this year.
In the +78 kg category, home nation Czech Republic, could celebrate another medal, as Marketa Paulusova managed to take a bronze medal.
As well as for Oberan, Olsen and Madsen, it was her 4th Junior European Cup medal this year.
In the -90 kg category, Achmed Mouzaev of Czech Republic, ended with a 7th place.
Two other 7th places went to the Austrian heavyweight girls; Marlene Hunger -78 kg and Maria Hoelwartt +78 kg.
Next week, there is more action to come, as one of the strongest events in the Junior European Cup Tour, the European Cup in Berlin is coming up. On senior level, we are looking forward to the Zagreb Grand Prix, another chance to collect important Olympic Qualification points.
