Tara Babulfath: Bronze in the weight category -48 kg
Tara Babulfath once again made history for Sweden, as she was able to capture a bronze medal in the women’s -48 kg category on the opening day of competition. The just 18 years old Babulfath is the youngest judo participant at the Games in Paris across all weight categories and today she became the first ever Swede to win an Olympic medal in judo.
As number #18 on the World ranking list, Babulfath came into the competition unseeded but powered through and managed to beat World number #1 Assunta Scutto from Italy on the way. She narrowly lost out to triple World Champion Natsumi Tsunoda of Japan in the semifinal but bounced back to win an incredible bronze medal.
In August last year, Babulfath won a bronze medal at the Cadet World Championships and today, less than a year later, she can call herself an Olympic medalist. What a day! The future is bright for this young athlete. Tara Babulfath – Remember the name.
