Round 1 against Benetti
Fabyury dominated from the start. He opened the fight by attempting a Flying Arm Bar, followed by a Back-Take to Mount Position from which Benetti freed himself before being taken down by Fabyury via Arm Bar after several passing attempts.
Round 2 against Amaddeo
The opening phase was characterized by an intense exchange of attacks. Fabyury managed a Back Take, with which he secured valuable points and won this tough fight.
Semi-final against Held
The well-known MMA fighter Held decided to go into the Guard early. Fabyury set up several passing attempts, while Held tried to heelhook him with a Leg Entanglement. Fabyury used this for a spectacular Back Take, which he could not quite finish. After another Leg Lock attempt by Held, Fabyury countered and defeated him with a Leg Lock of his own.
Final against Hopstock
Two international top athletes faced each other in the final. Hopstock also chose a more defensive fighting style and was immediately under pressure through Fabyury. Although Hopstock occasionally found positions to take Fabyury out, he never really put him in danger.
It remained a fight of equals until the end, with the main action initiated by Fabyury. After 10 minutes of hard fighting, Fabyury had to admit his defeat by referee decision and Hopstock was crowned the winner of the -80 kilo weight category and thus also the winner of 10,000 EUR prize money.
We are proud that our IPPONGEAR athlete Fabyury was once again able to showcase his spectacular style on one of the biggest grappling stages - even though he narrowly lost the final.
The next event is already coming up: the European No-Gi Championships in Rome. Once again, Fabyury and other IPPONGEAR athletes will be competing for the coveted medal positions.
